'cos everybody else's doin' it...

...and I have too much on me plate at the mo to even think about writing a coherent, long overdue post...

48 things

  1. FIRST NAME? Anna
  2. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? Yep, my paternal grandma, cos it's a bit of a tradition in Italy.
  3. WHEN DID YOU LAST CRY? Three days ago. No, wait, today, but it was more of a sniffle, so that don't count. I do cry all the time though, but let me be clear, that doesn't mean I suffer less!
  4. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? My handwriting expresses itself through multiple personalities, I like a few of them...
  5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCHMEAT? Uh? Lunchmeat? If that's what I think it is... then I don't do meat...
  6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU? I very much doubt it. I often can't stand a lot of aspects of my personality, I can only imagine how annoying they must be for other people... and I can be a bit of a loner when I put my mind to it... so, no, the answer would be no.
  7. DO YOU HAVE A JOURNAL? ...-ish... does this one count?
  8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS? Yep. And my appendix if you ask.
  9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP? Abso-frigging-lutely. One of those 30 things to do before I die I guess.
  10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL? Crunchy nutty muesli. These days it's Special K, with raisins, dried cranberries if I'm lucky, sunflower seeds, honey and cold skimmed milk... yummy!
  11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF? Not if I can help it.
  12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG? Nope, physically nor mentally.
  13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR? Haagen Daz Baileys, followed very closely by Haagen Daz Belgian Chocolate.
  14. SHOE SIZE? UK 2, Europe 35.
  15. RED OR PINK? Red. And magenta, cerise, hot shocking pink, not pastely baby pink.
  16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF? Oh, believe me, you don't even want to go there...
  17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST? Peeps in Italy who I only get to see a few times a year, and that's never enough. And somebody very close to my heart who's also miles and miles away. And my grandma. Terribly.
  18. WHAT FOOD WILL GET YOU OUT OF BED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT? Thirst not hunger will get me out of bed, so it'll be water.
  19. WHAT COLOUR TROUSERS, SHIRT AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING? Blue jeans, purple tank, black sweater, flip-flops (don't ask!), multi-color stripy knee high socks.
  20. LAST THING YOU ATE? A bowl of plain, microwaved petit poit at lunch, delicious!!!
  21. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? No Holds Barred (Internet radio) (disclaimer: not for the faint hearted or those of a weak disposition).
  22. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE? Fuchsia!
  23. FAVORITE SMELL? Berry stuff. And honey. And vanilla. And cinnamon.
  24. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE? A friend, about how crappy my day has been so far, about the mountain of work I still need to get through today, and about the fact that I probably won't finish till 10 o'clock tonight... and I have to get up at 6 tomorrow...
  25. THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE? Their smile.
  26. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON YOU STOLE THIS FROM? I don't really know her.
  27. FAVOURITE DRINK? Still (tap's fine) water and also apple juice. Both room temperature (and, for the love of god, do not stick a slice of lemon in it either!)
  28. FAVOURITE SPORT? Mmmm... I like cycling, but really like swimming better. I don't do either nearly often enough to call them sports though...
  29. EYE COLOUR? Hazelnut (ok, brown... but brown sounds so boring, doesn't it?)
  30. HAT SIZE? Uh? Size?
  31. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS? I used to, not anymore. I have a bit of a fetish with my glasses actually...
  32. FAVORITE FOOD? This is hard... let's see... rice, so something with rice, eastern probably (with rice and other stuff neatly divided on the plate, do NOT mix them up before serving it to me!), pizza, sweetcorn out of the tin, petit pois and all sort of cakes! Apple pie being right up there with chocolate muffin. And Jaffa cakes. And dark chocolate digestive buiscuits. And honey... Mmm... I'm hungry now...
  33. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? Happy endings. Definitely happy endings. In fact, happy beginnings and happy middles too.
  34. SUMMER OR WINTER? Winter. Actually, autumn.
  35. HUGS OR KISSES? Both. Either. Not with strangers though.
  36. FAVOURITE DESSERT? Apple pie.
  37. WHAT SIDE OF THE BED DO YOU SLEEP ON AND WHY? Whichever is the one closer to the door. I suppose subconsciously I need to be close to an escape route... but don't ask me why though. I don't recall having ever had traumas in the bedroom.
  38. IF YOU DIDN'T MAKE THE DECISION TO GET MARRIED AND HAVE A FAMILY, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING TODAY? Well, I've done neither, so I suppose exactly what I'm doing now. No, scrap that. I have no idea what I'm doing in one of the millions of parallel universes... but I'd love to find out what would have happened if only...
  39. WHAT BOOKS ARE YOU READING? Nothing right this minute. Hangs head in shame... I sort of flicked through a short stories book yesterday, but that left me uninterested. Must pop down to the library soon, I've got NOTHING on my night stand!
  40. WHAT'S ON YOUR MOUSE PAD? I don't have one, I use a graphic tablet.
  41. WHAT DID YOU WATCH LAST NIGHT ON TV? Didn't watch telly. Lord of the Rings was on though, god help us...
  42. FAVORITE SOUNDS? Waves crashing on the shore.
  43. ROLLING STONE OR BEATLES? The Beatles.
  44. THE FURTHEST YOU'VE BEEN FROM HOME? Mmm... I have a hard time definying what's home these days...
  45. WHAT'S YOUR SPECIAL TALENT? I can talk somebody through something really silly on their computer, when it's clear they should have never been sold one, and still keep my cool... but, really, I don't mind! There's something rather heart warming in showing somebody that all this interweb malarkey isn't really all that and there's no need to be scared.
  46. WHERE WERE YOU BORN? Italy.
  47. WHO SENT THIS TO YOU? I pinched it from somebody else's blog. Bad Anna!

On random thoughts

  • It's against nature that I should be up at the ungodly hour of 6am and be expected to function like a normal human being;
  • I realised yesterday, when getting ready to go out, that I have no scarves, not really, nothing simple and classic that I can just throw on and it's not gonna make me look like I don't even own a mirror;
  • So, when I get something off the needles (yeah, right!), I'm making meself an understated, timeless, classic, black scarf of some sort;
  • I noticed my right arm has slightly more muscle definition than my left one, something I can only attribute to knitting (so it really IS the new yoga!), as I do no other form of "manual labour" to speak of (no, wait, I do brush my teeth and occasionally put make up on with my right hand, but somehow I don't think that counts as excercise);
  • I'll need to do something to tone up my left arm... continental knitting, perhaps?
  • One of the pros cons of working in town is that you're never too far from Liberty or John Lewis;
  • I succumbed to both yesterday, and bagged some sock yarn (and teeny weeny needles) and some Jaeger Baby Merino. Exactly one week after my last buy. They're both for presents, though;
  • I couldn't fall asleep last night (and I do mean night, as in early morning, as in way too late to be playing with navy blue yarn, toothpicks and no proper light to speak of, btw), so armed with my freshly purchased goodies, I decided I'd have a go at Widdershins (...it's no wonder I couldn't drag myself out of bed this morning);
  • Hand on heart, it seems that I've yet to fully comprehend the importance of swatching. This is clearly demonstrated by the fact that having knitted the whole toe (my first toe-up, groovy baby!) and thinking it looked a little TOO small for an adult (gosh, even for my non-existent foot, in fact) I went to check my tension...
  • The pattern calls for: 28sts/10cm; the ball band says: 30sts/10cm... I have 40sts/10cm... forty, FORTY...
  • Do you see what I mean? How's that even possible?? I'm using 2mm... perhaps I should go up to 3mm? (...as I don't have circulars in that size... I feel another trip to Liberty coming up...)

Wanna see?

Nobody stop me now... I'm on a roll!

It's always like that, isn't it? You wait ages for one... and then three, no, two posts come along at once... well I'd better keep the momentum going, strike the iron while it's hot, and all that..., hadn't I? For tomorrow I may be forced into another knitting cum blogging hiatus...

Hat Hat

So, here we have it. It's done! My first Xmas gift is off the needles! Yeyyyy! I'm really pleased with how cool this hat has turned out. And it's all thanx to this fab fab fab yarn (Wendy Fusion in Mace, as you're asking), I just love how random the colour transitions are, it makes it look sooopa trendy, me thinks...

Mittens But, wait, I have more to show you... yes... another gift already cast on for, and actually, half done too, for I'm currently working on mitten #2 of 2, in another colourway of Wendy Fusion... so who's a good knitter, uh?

Only thing is... I hope I got the size right, I know the receipient's hands aren't gigantic, in fact they're rather dainty, but as I've only got my own dwarfy examples to hand (excuse the pun), I sort of took a guess, and made them only slightly bigger, say 1 inch or so longer than mine hoping they'll be allright on the night...

Mwah to all xx

I'm fine mum, I promise!

I just received an email from my mum, who was wondering if everything was ok, seen as there have been no posts for a while... but everything's cushty, really!

Hat Look, I've even managed to do a spot of knitting lately, ok, admittedly it's been more like 10 minutes on the train here and there, but it's better than nothing right? Seriously, I mustered up the courage, discreetly extracted the needles from my bag, kept my eyes firmly on the floor, and worked a few rows in a carriage packed with grumpy commuters (why is it that they feel the need to breathe all over you, I wonder? I mean, is it really a prerequisite of rush-hour London-bound journeys? To have foul morning breath spat over your person, without fail?? Anyway... I digress...).

So, what have we here? This is another cable hat, a quick and cheerful Xmas pressie in Wendy Fusion, which was my big discovery when earlier in the week I popped into JL (yes... I sinned, but I'm too ashamed to show you my loot), I know it's not 100% natural fibres, but I fell in love with its softness and colour transitions... I picked a ball up and I just had to have some... and before you know it, I was planning two hats... you know what it's like... ;) I'm halfway thru the first hat, so it may even become the first Xmas FO, you never know... ;)

Two things...

On Tuesday, somebody I know (but who doesn't know that I knit, for I is a closet-knitter), came up to me and told me how much she liked the top I was wearing... the top in question being my very own Lady Heather (yes, I know, I must urgently post some better photos!)... how cool is that, I thought!??! Absolutely made my day! I, of course, steered well clear of telling her I'd made it myself for reasons I can't quite put into words, I'm probably in need of a 12-step program for admitting in public that I play with sticks and string... but that's for another post...

Clapotis Secondly, this must be the driest knitting spot I've hit since I joined the dark side, almost 2 years ago...

I've hardly knitted a stitch in the last two weeks, but not for lack of trying I hasten to add... but (lack of) time is seriously playing games with my mind, if it's not one thing it's another, so I can only show you something I've not being working on lately, the ubiquitous Clap.

Clapotis I'm making this for my mum... when I started it (during my recent trip to Italy) I was super-confident I'd have it ready before my holiday was up... when that didn't happen I thought, well it'll be my Xmas pressie to her, that'd give me 2 months to work on it, surely it can be done... now... I'm not so certain... I'm at the 4th straight rows repeat of 12!! Read me? 12! So... mum, if I don't finish it in time, don't hold it against me... for I AM trying... ;)

Have a good weekend peeps! x
