Love the cardi, I think wooden buttons would be good, or even toggles? My fav. portable project is curly whirle scarf. Crochet a foundation chain then work 2 trebles into each chain. Just keep on going doing 2 stitches into every stitch. You end up with a flared piece which curls round like a corkscrew, I'm sure you could do the same in knitting. Looks effective for little effort. Love the blog Regards Karen

You could knit bowls to felt on circulars. They are an extremely quick knit and very portable. The heart buttons are adorable, but I'd be interested in seeing some wooden ones on the cardi.

What about the Booga bag or Sophie bag, can be adapted for any feltable yarn, made on circs (excdept i-cord handle) and so easy, quick and would fit in a bag (depending on size of bag obviously). Links are on my blog.
btw love the heart buttons, the metalic colour works well.
