I'm loving working with Lisa Souza yarns. The colors are luscious, the socks are soft, the skeins are long... and it's washable! Plus they smell really good. Before you wear them that is.

As I have sort of guessed how to use two circs as on which is dividing half the stitches on each, that is what you were taught no? Because soon as I finish my sweater I am going to try and do me some socks that way. :)
Good luck with making your socks I am sure they will turn out GREAT and get you HOOKED quickly.... Cant wait to see how you get on. :)

Well, there are the yarns everyone's already mentioned (lornas, koigu). I've thrown socks made from lornas & koigu into the washing machine with zero problems on a delicate cycle. For a thicker, cushier sock, Art Yarns SuperMerino is fabulous and works up pretty quickly.
Few things compare to handknit socks. Once you have a pair, you're just going to want more.

Lorna's Laces - hands down, no contest. Closely followed by Socks that Rock. Koigu might beat these if I ever get up the guts to knit with it rather than pet it.

I'm the last person you should be asking - my adventures with sock yarns are well documented and seem to have skyrocketed this past week (must be the weather)! Anyway, I'm interested to see how you'll go... Good luck. x
PS: Peri got it in 1 - welcome to the dark side!

I just started knitting socks recently. On DPN's. And I'm a thrower, so it's taking forever! Let me know how the two circs work for you. I've been curious about trying that method out.
Unfortunately, I can't recommend any commercial sock yarn. I haven't had the pleasure of working with anything of higher quality than Knit Picks sock yarn. Right now, I'm knitting some socks from some handspun yarn. I'll try to post some pictures later.

Welcome to the dark side! I started sock knitting about 3 months after I'd learnt to knit and love it. I'm afraid I am a dpn lover to. My fave yarn is Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Merino. I has a lovely feel to it, comes in variagated and solid and wears really well. I've found the best range at www.woolyworkshop.com Good Luck with our first socks.

Get Knitted had 2.5mm weeny circs designed just for sockies from the Addi Turbo range. I can't get on with them but they might suit you - I love DPN's - sad ain't it?
As for sock yarn. I have two favs - 6ply from Natural Dye Co (sent by a friend as a RAK) soft, thick and yummy. The other has to be Lornas Laces - I knitted a pair in this yarn over 3 years ago - no holes yet - and I've worn them loads and in boots. The only downside is the handwashing. For machine washable then both Opal and Regia are good - I like the Opal dye your own - you get less twee and more funk in your colour choices that way.
Hope this helps - welcome to the dark side - sock knitting is addictive.
