Widdershins.
The Sock itself is a nice simple constructon, but the cable will keep your interest.
:-)
Hope you are enjoying Italia, see you at angel Knits next week?

Hedera is totally doable, and gorgeous! What color LL did you choose?

Wow - any of these socks will give you a challenge for your first pair. I'm not the best to ask as I'm not a lace fan and find too much cable boring though like the look. I like my socks plain BUT love bright bright vivid multicolors - which don't look so good on patterned socks anyway. Good luck with whatever you choose and enjoy your vacation!
Glad you're pleased with your mittens too ;)

I'd definitely go for Hedera first. The pattern is just right to keep your interest without being too boring. I've made these and love them! I also made a start on Baudelaire for my daughter and whilst I love the pattern and that it's toe up, I've got to remake it as it's a really skinny fit. Would be a shame to do all that work and find it's too tight (like wot I did!).

I am currently working on Baudelaire and as long as you can master the figure of 8 cast on its not too bad. This is my first pair of toe-up socks, so in some respects I'm a beginner (i've knitted top-down before) and I have found them to be interesting and challenging but not too difficult.

I vote for Hedera~! Its a pretty good pattern, IMHO. The pattern is interesting enough but not too complex. I heard somewhere that Baudelaire can be too challenging for a beginner sock-knitter. =)

Widdershins is a wonderfully versatile pattern that I've managed to adapt for lots of cuff down patterns. And you don't need to pick up stitches (unless you count the wrap&turns). I have the Widdershins pattern memorised now!

Sorry I don't follow the others, I like the Widdershins. The others look too much like my daughters school uniform socks!

I would say Baudelaire, only because they are a recent addition, second choice would be Widdershins, because I am sad and like cable! If you knit any of these it is best to choose a yarn without too much pattern in it otherwise you will loose the detail, ie a self-striping. You will have striping going in one direction and pattern you are knitting going another.

I like Baudelaire because it reminds me of the Series of Unfortunate Events. And my second choice would be Snowflake.
I love the patterns. I wish I could knit sox.

I say go with Baudelaire because I eventually want to get around tomake those so if you make them first you can tell me any problems I may face! AHAHH

Go for the snowflakes, the pattern is the easiest to get your fingers to remember !

ok I say go with the cables. At the start you'll want to focus on getting to know each part of the sock and how its knit, but the cables will at that bit of interest in the long stretch between cuff and ankle, ankle to toe.
ohhh I can't wait for your addiction to begin :)
