Sew what Skirts is by Francesca Denhartog and Carole Ann Camp and is just great, also you should take a look at Bend the Rules Sewing by Amy Carole which is full of great tips. Good Luck, I have a Toyota sewing machine and its been my best friend for nearly 20 years (AAARRHHH am I really that old!!!) Just remember to keep it oiled and change your needle regularly and you should have no probs. S X

How cool that you got a sewing machine!! :) Best advice is just jump in and dont get angry when things dont turn out the way you like thats why you can rip the seams out (with being careful!) just like you can rip back in knitting. I love my sewing machine too! :)

what are looking to make? u-handblog.com has some great bag making tutorials and she also runs a great on-line shop and is really helpful. I can recommend some good books for making clothes S.E.W. (sew everything workshop) by Dianna Rupp and Sew What! Skirts (can't remember the author of hand) Hope this helps
