Aaaand my “Melt the ICE”-inspired hat is finally finished ♥
I knitted this hat three times. The first, worked closely to the original Melt the ICE pattern, didn’t quite work for me, the side decreases gave strong “bishop’s hat” vibes, and I wanted a sharper, more pointed crown inspired by 1940s Norwegian resistance hats. The second attempt came out too small after a miscalculation, but third time really was the charm. This version looks exactly as I envisioned.
I reworked the construction entirely. My modifications are included in my own pattern, which I’ve released free of charge, but please do still buy the original Melt the ICE pattern to support the cause, even if you choose to do your own thing.
The original pattern is available on Ravelry for $5, or directly from @needleandskein, with all proceeds going to immigrant aid agencies supporting those impacted by the actions of ICE.
And honestly, I’m blown away. Over $400,000 worth of this pattern has been sold so far. Crafters really are the best!
