Yesterday I fell in love

Colour mixing

Yesterday I fell in love. It happened in one short day. In fact, in the space of a few hours, I knew I was hooked. Yes, painting stole my heart. In the beginning there were 5: blue, red, yellow, white and black, and the world looked like early days LEGO. Then, as if by magic, an entire rainbow of possibilities emerged. Kirsten (whose beginners’ painting workshop I attended yesterday.

There are still dates available: go and play! I promise it’s worth it.) showed us how to make colours! Sorcery! And I don’t just mean blue+yellow=green. No, there was azure, and aubergine, and magenta, and peach, and midnight blue, and teal, and emerald, and khaki, and I don’t even know the names for most of them! I truly could have watched her mix colours for hours. Mesmerising.

I did feel a bit out of my depth as, despite the class being aimed at beginners, all the other attendees had prior painting experience. But I needn’t have worried! I just went along with it, got totally immersed in the experience and ended up having the most fun I have had in a long time with my clothes on.

I am still buzzing with excitement!! So, where does that leave me? Enamoured, that’s where. I. want.to. do. more. I cannot wait for classes to start in February, but in the meantime, I am going to acquire some materials, and start practicing by myself. Still lifes (yes, that’s the plural, I checked) or landscapes aren’t really my cup of tea, but I imagine it’d be jolly good practice to paint things that I see around me at least at the beginning and get some sort of technique going. So, yes. A love was born yesterday!
